2016 National Latino Children’s Summit

We welcome you to the 2016 National Latino Children’s Summit. Our theme, Latinos: Into the Future represents the continuous collaboration among diverse national and local organizations, government agencies, academic institutions, community development organizations, Latino leaders, businesses and children’s advocates to draw attention to the future impact of young Latinos in our nation.

There are 17.6M Latino children in the U.S., representing 24% of the country’s child population. By 2060 it is projected that the proportion of Latino children will comprise almost 40 percent of the total child population.*

While Latino children are beginning to narrow the educational attainment gap, there continues to be disparities and issues of concern that are causing Latino children to struggle and fall behind. Our nation cannot afford to leave any talented child behind and expect that this will remedy itself. Action is needed now to ensure equitable opportunities for all children.

This year is a Presidential election year. Millennials will exercise their political voice and impact the elections as never before. The Summit will focus on young millennials, the new Latino voters, and provide diverse perspectives on their interests, issues and the need for a more equitable economy and future opportunities.

Igniting dialogue and action across multiple policy issues, the Summit will provide data and research, offer an exchange of information and best practices, promote networking opportunities among Latino leaders and empower children’s advocates to use their collective voice to promote changes in public policies and inspire the next generation of Latino leaders to take their rightful place by engaging in advocacy, leadership and civic engagement.
